Bathed in Sunshine

Residential Apartment Designed by Chien Ting Chen

Our idea is to retain the most beautiful light for the living space, and let the grain and material freely fill and diffuse at home, to interweave the breath of life as if bathed in the nature with the sunshine overflowing in the room; the arc craft is applied on the frameless glass, to wipe off the edges and corners of the space with the gentle line segment, and bring safer use for the elderly on the functional surface.

Let the dialogue between "light" and "grain" produce inadvertently, is the most important design core of the living space; we open the pattern and visual field, the life space becomes the best stage of light, woodiness, and stone material, and the simple and natural tone sprays and spreads freely at home.

In order to let the sunlight move freely in life, we remove the excess wall and frame lines, so that each section of life can enjoy the sunshine, and enjoy the scenery outside the window. We use a large number of wood and stone material to present the natural texture; through the order and color division, the use of texture is richer and more varied. In addition, because of the elderly care demand, there is the beautiful virtual and practical curve turning of wood and glass at the corner of the bar, study, and corridor entry, instead of sharp ridge; the arc design is also used to the washing space, to bring more wide field of vision, and create more space for the use of wheelchair.

It emphasizes in the harmonious aesthetic feeling of natural texture and light, and tries to eliminate the visual burden from the frame line structure, to maximize the vision extension through the design of curved glass, reduce the use of frame and handle on the French window of public area and the storage design, and apply the geometric proportion coordination and balance, to converge the vision to the most simple appearance.

The advantage of this residential pattern is that the proportion of daylighting surface is quite large, so the public domain windows use floor-to-ceiling windows to collect abundant daylight, step into the room from the entrance, all the way to the kitchen, living room and study, the line of sight is smooth and unimpeded, and the light and shadow from dark to bright enrich the visual experience, but also widen and deepen the spatial scale.

The project started and finished in 2019 in Taiwan. The design research focused on removing excess wall and frame lines to allow sunlight to move freely in the space. The use of wood and stone materials adds richness and variety to the design. The challenge was in implementing the curved glass boundaries in the study and bathroom, while maintaining a frameless look and ensuring safety. The result is a living space that harmoniously combines light, natural textures, and a simple and natural tone.

This design was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category in 2022. The award recognizes well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. The design is respected for integrating industry best practices and competent technical characteristics, providing fulfillment and positive feelings, and contributing to a better world.
